Life flows like a river. From 1992 to 2014, twenty-two years have passed. This march is a march of freedom and resistance.
All the comrades who are in this march are fighters of Martyr Berîtan. Resistance and betrayal became two lines on this path. Martyr Berîtan never accepted the line of betrayal. She was always within resistance. Her stance always created hope for us. Like a star in the sky, she lit our path. She crushed the spirit of Enkî. The smile on her face showed the beauty of her heart. She was beautiful. Her spirit was full of creation and giving birth. She gave life to everyone. She gave life to the women of Kurdistan. Berîtan was a mountain, she was resistance; she alone was a revolution…
Yes, dear comrades. We began our march from the place where Comrade Berîtan had set out. We were walking along a narrow mountain path toward a narrow valley. This valley was the valley of Martyr Çîçek, Martyr Rüstem, Martyr Rozerîn, and other comrades.
We went to the cave where the comrades were martyred in 2011. All the comrades went in and looked around. This cave had only one entrance. Its entrance had been closed. When the aircraft bombed the cave, the wall at the cave entrance collapsed, and Comrade Çîçek, Comrade Rüstem, Comrade Rozerîn, Comrade Elîşêr, Comrade Eşref, Comrade Erdal, Comrade Amara, and Comrade Dîcle were martyred inside the cave. Each comrade stepped into the cave with deep emotion. Each comrade’s feelings were different. Afterwards we came out of the cave. Each comrade sat down and spoke about those days. One said, “I was late; if only I had come earlier.” Each one put their feelings into words. Then we bid farewell to the martyrs and continued our march.
The heat of the month of June was burning everywhere. The comrades became dizzy under this sun. Afterwards the young male comrades went off. We, the women comrades, also went to throw ourselves into the water. We went and entered the water. Many comrades did not know how to swim. But with the help of comrades, they too were learning to swim. They were very excited and eager.
One of our comrades said to us: If only the Leadership were now in these majestic mountains of ours. How beautiful it would be.
After swimming, each comrade took out their diary and began writing about this march of ours. Later the young male comrades came, and together we began our march. We went and reached the front of a cliff. On this cliff there was a majestic rock. We walked toward that rock. We reached the very top of the hill. But our comrades were stung by scorpions. We were forced to stop there. We spent the night by the cliff. That night we did not sleep at all. Until morning, sleep did not enter the eyes of even one comrade.
With the rays of the sun, we rose. The sun’s rays were falling on the ledge from which Martyr Berîtan had thrown herself. We went to the head of the precipice and looked around us. At that moment each comrade expressed their feelings about Comrade Berîtan’s action. Each comrade was questioning themselves before the action of Martyr Berîtan. They were all fighters of Martyr Berîtan. Reaching the level of Martyr Berîtan was the aim of every comrade. For that reason, when we went to the head of the precipice, every comrade had entered into a very deep feeling.
The more they thought about the action of Martyr Berîtan, the more their anger and hatred toward collaboration and betrayal grew. She always resisted against all occupiers and traitors, and insisted on the line of resistance. She surrendered neither herself nor her weapon. For this reason, all our comrades were thinking in silence, in a fine and deep way. That is why they wanted to become a great answer to Comrade Martyr Berîtan.
At that moment, while all the comrades were in thought, we were taking their photographs.
Going to that precipice gave the comrades very great enthusiasm and morale. The women comrades have waged a very great struggle against the enslaving mentality of a culture of thousands of years and against the patriarchal mentality, and they still take their place in the foremost ranks of this struggle.
After the visit to the precipice was over, we set out on the road. A very harsh heat struck our faces. We went and reached Şahîn Hill. There was a very beautiful spring here. We had breakfast here, and afterwards we set out again. Comrade Masîro showed the terrain to all the comrades. From the ridges of Xinêr to Şemzînan, she showed everything. This too gave one hope. Because knowing the terrain and moving through it have many positive aspects. Likewise, we set out again. We went and reached a point. There was an ice-cold spring here. It was very beautiful. We filled our bottles and went on. This point had been used in previous years. The Şemzînan unit had been here. Martyr Nûda, Martyr Dîcle, Martyr Dunya, and Martyr Hevîdar had lived here. Comrade Arjîn was looking at this place with deep emotion. Her memories were coming before her eyes. Afterwards we descended below. We came to the Martyrs’ Cemetery. Here we were going to give our march a two-day break. Our two days passed like this.
They were meaningful days. They were precious. A person becomes filled with love when walking on those narrow mountain paths. The roads on which we walk are very precious. It is precious that today thousands of Berîtans walk at the front. It is precious that everyone takes resistance as their basis on her line. May your eyes not go open. May your heart, your spirit, and your mind be at ease. Dear and beautiful commander, have no doubt that your cause is our cause. Fulfilling your aims and dreams is our duty. We are not the first, and we will not be the last either. We are not one Berîtan or two; today we are thousands. Our army flows like a river, and as it goes on it grows larger… As it flows, it becomes a hundred Berîtans, a hundred Egîds, and a hundred Zîlans… Today, in place of every martyred comrade of ours, there are thousands of other comrades. Because from sparks, great and bright fires are lit.
